I think you need bigger and will like a bigger tractor than a 4100 for your application. A back blade IS the way to go for the drive, I would go with one that has a replaceable cutting edge. Sounds like a good finance rate, is that on AL JD's or just the 4100?

I hate it also! For those who surf nonstop and are aware of the right click-open to new window form of surfing there is no better. Most of the time I surf with JAVA turned off due to the fact that there can be nasty scripts out there waiting to do ugly things to my data. For those of you who use just one browser window, don't you get sore waiting for pages to re-load all the time? I'll use a search engine then when I find what looks close, I'll right click-open in new window to see if it's the page with the info I want, if not you just X it out and whala the original search page is fully functional right before my eyes, no reload, no back, no waiting. You have to try it! You will not go back to "BACK" again.

Don, in northern Illinois with 6 snow events and access to a "real" backhoe for the blizzards I would save my money on the blower and get the next larger model tractor. For the price of a front mount blower you might get 3 models bigger! My Kubota B2710 with back blade and FEL handled the record snowfall in Dec. and Jan here in central lower Michigan just fine. (260' drive way and 10,000,000' of paths to animal pens for the kid's/wife's pets/animals etc. Seemed like 10 mil anyway!) Why not mow with the 4100 class machine?

Perspective, try this one. Go price a big garden tractor, read "big lawn mower" then realize you get soooo much more for just a little more in a compact. More weight, power, 3pt, diesel (usually), more types styles of attachments, etc. Try selling a lawn mower 10 years from now for nearly what you paid for it!

I too went through the insurance questions both prior to and after the purchase of a B2710 with FEL. The funniest part was the fact I just changed to an "estate" policy to cover a horse, loafing shed, fencing, liability related to the horse. I also asked about the tractor. On the estate policy if I used the tractor to mow, grade my drive, move heavy objects, clear brush, plow snow I WAS covered under the current policy as written. The funny part, get ready, if I used that same tractor to move horse manure from a pile to the garden I now needed a specific line item with a stated value for tractor coverage! $168 more per year to do "farm" related work. Further investigation lead to the discovery that since the electric fencer for the horse fence is inside my pole barn that it too needs a seperate line item and a stated value for coverage. $300(saved) later I too have the same letter that Donald has. I still LOL each time I think of that first agent qouting the policy to me.

Thanks for the info, I remember something about this a couple of months back but never heard the results. My 2710 would on occasion have simular symptoms but rarely. The 7500 is a 2 speed tranny, high and low isn't it?

Do you mean the cover for the splined shaft (shaft cap)or the little fold up shield (cover)? My 2710 w/o folding ROPS has the cover and the cap. (no cap on the mid pto though)In fact it IS pointed out in the yellow safety sheets in front of the owners manual as "KEEP THE PTO SHAFT COVER ON AT ALL TIMES" so I would say you should have one on it. Got 44 hours on mine and love it. The sad part is that 24 of those hours are moving cold snow!

D. H. has a point, for the cost of the resistor you got a 12 light. If you do stick with the 6 volter then you have invested in the resistor and now need to find replacement 6 volt bulbs from now on. I would check with an electronic not electrical supply store. I'd say Radio Shack but there are some really good ones and some reeeaallly baaaddd ones! I say electronic supply store cause those guys should be able to run the formula's for you if you take the bulb in with you. Might be cheaper than auto stores also. If you have an ohm meter measure the resistance of the 6 volt light. I would guess around 1 ohm. What you read on the meter is the ohmage resistor you need to place in series with the light to work in a 12 volt system. Watts is the harder part to figure out. The guys at the store should be able to figure it out. Even easier if the 6 volt bulb is labeled in watts. A 30 watt 6 volt bulb would need a 30 watt resistor. By in "series" we mean from the battery+__to__resistor___to___6voltbulb__to____-battery/gnd. If you need to figure the wattage take 6volts/ohms read with meter to get the current draw. Take that answer and multiply it by the 6 volts to get watts. Ohm is the resistance needed and watts is the power dissipation capacity of the resistor. Good luck.

Bird, I did ask for the 4 way prior to purchase but now that I read the manual after actually using the loader I remember it backwards. Book says with the 4 way you will have a 2 speed dump setting. One regular for precise control and further right (sim to float) a high speed dump. Mine seems backwards to this. If I do not go all the way right I can unload quicker than part way. Where's ART when you need'im? He might be able to 'splane it better.

Could that 7100 have two oil drain plugs like the book says my 2710 does? If only one was drained than a full re-fill would show you overfull and still dirty. Just a thought!

I have found that I need to adjust the angle and direction of the blade more while plowing snow than when grading a gravel drive. So to avoid constantly adjusting one side of the 3-pt to level the blade while angled, I adjusted the toplink so that at any angle the blade was level to the ground. I mostly push snow in reverse with the back of the blade o---0--) and if I need to drive forward I will pull the back of the blade. o---0--(

Larry, since we just got a good snow and it's cold out what would your dealer say to you trying to start other 4100's on the lot? (other models too) Provided they are outside and cold you could get a good comparison to how yours is acting. It may instigate a solution or resolve the debate. Just thinking outside the box. Take your time and find the one that you like the best. Drive them all, if you haven't driven a hydro, I would make that a priority since hydro and mowing go hand in hand. IMHO of course, variable speed, reverse all in one pedal/foot. I think your first sentence says it all for what you would like. Find the brand with the least amount of problems that fits your budget and needs. Good luck.

DITTO, DITTO, DITTO! Nothing gets me hotter than seeing a pickup sized dump truck pulling a 18,000# hoe on a cheap dual axle trailer with no chains at 70 MPH. You all make very good points and safety is primary. I know you all want to sleep in your own bed tonight and so does everybody else, don't risk it. GCVWR (1 ton and less i believe?)is the key, mfr's rate a vehicle for a 10,000# trailer but then in the fine print tell you about the GCVWR. My 10,000# trailer rated tow vehicle can actually haul only a 6000# trailer cause the rest of the equation is lost to a fully loaded tow vehicle. It's a numbers game that on the surface causes one to overload their vehicle. Be safe and add in a large safety factor!
